ButterfliesCreating Change--Where Has The Joy Gone?

There are many forces in the universe which are beyond our control. Many of these forces come together and the natural outcome is change. Are we really being called on to create additional change? If so, of what nature?

When we set out to deliberately create change, we often bring force to something where no force is required. And we bring our old best pal resistance with us. Because of our resistance, we have lost much of the joy of the creative process.

We are incredibly creative beings, and when our "creating change" is reduced to "resisting what is," we have collapsed our creative potential from 100% to perhaps 5%--if we're lucky. We have taken an infinite capacity for creation and reduced it down to the size of a shoebox!

Here are three common ways I believe we limit ourselves when we set out to "create change."

1) Creating from a place of fear or anger

I believe numerous opportunities are being sent to us when changes occur in our lives. When we meet changes with resistance, however, the opportunities are blocked from our view. Have no doubt--the opportunities are still there. Through our resistance we are simply not allowing ourselves to see them.

I invite you to pay attention today to your automatic reaction when change enters your personal universe. How do you respond? Many people automatically find themselves in anxiety, fear, or anger. Here then--from our state of fear or anger--is where we source the energy to "create change." This approach does not place us in an optimal position for creation that will serve us!

2) Carrying the past

In our lives, we may continue to focus on what we feel are the errors or deficiencies in our past. With this approach, our resistance blocks us from any real progress, although it will allow a huge amount of effort and the exhaustion that comes with it! We may see the past as a wall in front of us--built of mistakes, unfulfilled dreams, or regrets. The wall may loom large and block our view.

Or, the wall may help form the foundation for a bright future, if we will allow the sacred gift from each past event into our lives. Frequently we miss this connection, however, because our resistance stops us from even entertaining the possibility.

3) Jumping the gun

Sometimes we try to create change and later come to the conclusion that "the world must not yet be ready" for our brand of change. More to the point in those cases, we, ourselves, are not yet in alignment with the changes we are trying to create. Accordingly, our road becomes one of frustration upon frustration.

If we will take advantage of the changes--the opportunities--that are handed to us in perfect (Divine!) timing in our lives, however, we can often build up to the changes that we are attempting to create (or changes that are far more exciting than anything we ever dreamed of) much more easily and with far more enjoyment.

We try to go from 0 to 50 mph without ever driving 10, 20, 30, or 40 mph. For most of us today, that's just not going to happen (maybe in 2012)! Our journey is far easier and more rewarding when we allow ourselves to come into alignment with universal forces at work.

An alternative approach--aligning with change

An optional approach for us then would be a heightened awareness of the changes that are already occurring within us and within our lives, coupled with an even greater focus on the possible opportunities that each of these changes bring.

When we take full advantage of the opportunities we are being given, we are creating change--in a way that will serve us, in a way that is in alignment, and in a way that doesn't require force. Allowing the flow back into the creation process brings more ease and joy back into the process.

If you choose to invite (inevitable) change into your life, yes, you will probably be asked to step out of your comfort zone. You may be asked to experience things you haven't felt comfortable experiencing before. However, once you start this revolutionary process, I think you will find there is a certain energy inherent in these activities/situations that you and your soul will find refreshing and invigorating. I wish you many happy changes!
