It is Better to Give Than To Receive. Or is it?
Many of us, at least at some level, believe receiving is "bad"--that we must be doing the "giving" or the "providing" to be "OK". I hear this from my clients and my friends and, of course, see it in myself. So, I asked Spirit to provide me with some reminders on this topic, and I'd like to share those reminders with you now.
** Remember, it doesn't matter how something comes to us; all of these things are gifts from the Divine! So, our abundance may come through another person, however, it is not really coming from that person. (Just as when we give, it is the Divine that is giving through us.)
** We often equate receiving with taking from another. When we feel bad receiving from another, we are buying into a scarcity mindset that is based on illusion. The reality is that there is plenty for everybody. There is great abundance in this universe.
** Giving and receiving really cannot be separated, so it is an illusion when you think of it in this way. Even as you receive, you are giving.
** At the end of the day, we as individuals, do not have to be "in balance" as to our giving and receiving. We will never give as much as we receive from the Divine! There are times in our lives when we feel we are giving more than we are receiving, and there are times in our life when we feel we are receiving more. Both of these are appropriate and part of the Divine plan. We feel separate from the rest of the universe, but we're not, so we can't evaluate ourselves as if we live in a vacuum.
Do you feel like experimenting with your ability to receive? Here is a simple exercise you can try.
For one day--or even just one hour--set an intention to receive all the gifts and opportunities you can from the Divine. For the rest of that day/hour, pay close attention to all the gifts and opportunities that come to you. (Don't worry if you lose your focused awareness for awhile; just come back to paying attention when you realize you've gone off track.)
Say YES--internally and externally--to the gifts that appear. Have faith and trust that you are guided throughout your day, and participate fully in your life with as open a heart and mind as possible. Allow yourself to experience awe and gratitude as you receive your gifts--large and small.
That night contemplate your day (or hour) of receiving. Was it perhaps a little more interesting? A little more fun? More rewarding?
If you enjoyed this day, write down one thing you can do to remind yourself to live this way every day and post it where you'll see it often.
I wish you much happiness in receiving!
